Skiing Near Lake Harmony: Your Winter Guide to Big Boulder and Jack Frost

Snowy ski slopes in the Poconos near Big Boulder and Jack Frost, close to Lake Harmony

Big Boulder and Jack Frost are the reason Lake Harmony comes alive when the snow arrives in the Poconos. And there’s no better way to experience it than from a home where you can click into your skis at the door. Both of our homes are just 5 minutes from Big Boulder, so your group spends more time on the snow and less time on the road.

Big Boulder and Jack Frost

Lake Harmony sits between two well-loved Pocono ski areas. Big Boulder is known for its terrain parks and night skiing under the lights, which is great for groups who like to make the most of the evening. Jack Frost, a few minutes away, has a nice spread of trails and is a good pick for mixed-ability groups. Both are part of the Vail Resorts family, so check current lift ticket and pass options on the Jack Frost Big Boulder website before your trip.

When to go

The Pocono ski season typically runs from mid-December into March, depending on conditions and snowmaking. January and February usually bring the most reliable snow. Holiday weeks and Presidents’ Day weekend book up early, so if your group has a date in mind, lock it in as soon as you can.

Why staying 5 minutes from the slopes matters for big groups

  • A short morning drive. With 16 people, getting everyone and their gear to the mountain is quick when Big Boulder is only 5 minutes away.
  • Everyone goes at their own pace. Early birds can head out first; late risers join when they’re ready.
  • Easy lunch breaks. The house is close enough to pop back, warm up, eat and recharge.
  • Non-skiers aren’t left out. They can stay cozy by the stone fireplace and still be part of the day.

After the lifts close

This is where our homes really shine. Peel off the ski boots and head straight into the hot tub with everyone you came with. Then gather around the fire pit, crank up the karaoke or settle in for a long game of pool. At the Mountain Getaway, the golf simulator gives you a chance to work on your swing even in January.

Winter travel tip

Mountain roads can be snowy, so check the forecast before you leave and give yourself extra time. All-wheel drive or good winter tires make the drive much easier.

Ready to plan your group ski trip to Lake Harmony?

Big Boulder and Jack Frost for every ability

Mixed-ability groups are the norm on a big family or friends’ trip, and these two mountains handle that well. Beginners can book lessons and stick to the gentler runs, while confident skiers and riders explore the steeper trails and terrain parks. Families with young kids will find ski school options, and the snow tubing hill is a hit with anyone who doesn’t want to strap on skis.

Gear and rentals

If some of your group doesn’t own gear, rentals are available at the mountain. Reserve online in advance for a big group so you’re not waiting in line on the first morning. Consider bringing:

  • A boot bag for each skier to keep the entryway tidy
  • Hand warmers for the chairlift
  • Snacks and water bottles for mid-morning breaks

Having both Big Boulder and Jack Frost close by gives your group options on busy weekends: if one is crowded, the other is a short drive away.

A typical ski day from the house

Early risers grab coffee and hit first chair. Everyone else follows after a big breakfast. Come back for lunch, warm up and swap stories, then head out for an afternoon or night session. Finish with the hot tub, dinner at the big table and a few rounds in the game room. Repeat tomorrow.
