Things to Do in Lake Harmony, PA: A Year-Round Guide for Groups

Hickory Run Boulder Field, one of the top things to do in Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania

Looking for things to do in Lake Harmony? You’re in luck: there’s always something going on here, whatever the season and whatever your group is into. Our two homes sit right in the middle of it all in the Pocono Mountains. Here are the outings our guests love most, all within a short drive of your front door.

Hit the slopes at Big Boulder and Jack Frost

In winter, Lake Harmony is a ski town. Both of our homes are just 5 minutes from Big Boulder, with Jack Frost a short drive further. Big Boulder is known for its terrain parks and night skiing, and Jack Frost has a good mix of trails for mixed-ability groups. Not everyone skis? Snow tubing is a big hit with kids and grown-ups alike.

Walk across the Hickory Run Boulder Field

About 20 minutes away, Hickory Run State Park is home to the Boulder Field, a huge, flat expanse of rocks left behind by glaciers and recognized as a National Natural Landmark. The Hickory Run State Park page has trail maps and seasonal updates. It’s strange and spectacular, and makes for great group photos. Pair it with the short trail to Hawk Falls for an easy half-day out. Wear sturdy shoes, as the rocks are uneven.

Raft or bike the Lehigh Gorge

From spring through fall, the Lehigh River is one of the region’s top whitewater rafting spots, and outfitters in nearby White Haven and Jim Thorpe run trips for groups of all sizes. Prefer dry land? The rail-trail through Lehigh Gorge State Park is flat, scenic and perfect for a long family bike ride.

Spend time on the lake

Summer at Lake Harmony means lazy afternoons on and around the water. Both homes include lake access, so you can swim, paddle or just sit by the shore with a cold drink while the kids burn off energy.

Catch a race at Pocono Raceway

Pocono Raceway in Long Pond is just a short drive away. On race weekends the whole area buzzes, so if you’re planning a trip around a big event, book early. Homes for groups this size go fast.

Things to do in Lake Harmony without leaving the house

Some of the best moments happen without getting in the car. Between the hot tub, the fire pit and a game room with pool, foosball, a poker table and a karaoke stage, plenty of groups decide the best plan is no plan at all.

Whatever you have in mind, Eric is happy to share local tips before you arrive.

Planning a group itinerary

With 16 or more people, it helps to plan a rough shape for the trip and leave plenty of room for nothing at all. A simple pattern our guests like: one big outing a day, then back to the house by late afternoon for the hot tub, dinner and games.

  • Day one: Settle in, do the grocery run and get the fire pit going.
  • Day two: Ski at Big Boulder in winter, just 5 minutes away, or spend the day on the lake in summer.
  • Day three: A bigger trip out, such as Hickory Run in the morning or rafting on the Lehigh.
  • Last morning: A slow breakfast together before everyone heads home.

Not everyone wants to do the same thing, and that’s fine. Split into smaller crews for the day and swap stories over dinner at the big table. That’s the advantage of having a home base big enough for everyone. You can go your separate ways and still end the day together.

The list of things to do in Lake Harmony changes with the seasons, so ask Eric what’s on during your dates. He’s happy to share his favorite spots.
