Wondering how to get to Lake Harmony? The good news is it’s easy to reach. Tucked into the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania, it’s close enough for a weekend getaway from several major cities, yet it feels a world away once you arrive. Here’s how to get your group here.
Driving from Philadelphia
Lake Harmony is roughly a 1 hour 45 minute drive from Philadelphia. The most direct route is north on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476), which has exits close to Lake Harmony. Follow the local signs for Lake Harmony from there. It’s an easy, scenic drive, especially in the fall.
Driving from New York City and New Jersey
From New York City, expect around two hours of driving, depending on traffic. Most guests take I-80 West across New Jersey into the Poconos, then follow local roads to Lake Harmony. Friday afternoon traffic leaving the city can add time, so leaving early or after the rush makes a real difference.
Flying in
If some of your group is coming from further afield, the closest airports are:
- Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International (AVP), around 40 minutes away
- Lehigh Valley International (ABE), around 50 minutes away
- Newark (EWR) and Philadelphia (PHL), about two hours away, with many more flight options
You’ll want a rental car either way, as public transport in the area is limited.
How to get to Lake Harmony with a big group
- Carpool smartly. Fewer cars means easier parking and a more fun drive. Ask Eric about parking before you arrive so you know how many vehicles the home can take.
- Stagger arrivals. Let the first carload grab groceries and get settled while others are still on the road.
- Share one pin. Drop the address in the group chat so everyone navigates to the same place.
- Plan for winter. From December to March, check the forecast before you leave. All-wheel drive or winter tires help on snowy mountain roads.
- Arrive in daylight if you can. Country roads are easier to navigate when you can see them.
Once you’re here, the car can stay parked. With Big Boulder 5 minutes away in winter and lake access in summer, a lot of the fun is right on your doorstep.
Drive times at a glance
Approximate drive times in normal traffic:
- Philadelphia: around 1 hour 45 minutes
- New York City: around 2 hours
- Northern New Jersey: around 1 hour 30 minutes
- Allentown and the Lehigh Valley: under 1 hour
- Scranton and Wilkes-Barre: around 40 minutes
Holiday weekends and Friday evenings can add significant time, so plan accordingly.
Tolls and stops
The Turnpike is a toll road, so make sure every driver has an E-ZPass or is ready for toll-by-plate billing. There are plenty of places to stop for gas and groceries on the way in. It’s worth a final stop before you head up the mountain, so you won’t need to go out again that evening.
Knowing how to get to Lake Harmony is half the battle. Once you’ve arrived, Eric is just a text away if you need directions to anything nearby.
Arriving in winter
Snow can arrive quickly in the mountains. Keep an ice scraper, a small shovel and a blanket in the car, fill up on gas before the final stretch and check road conditions before you set off. A little preparation makes the arrival as relaxing as the stay. If you’re running late or the weather turns, just text Eric so he knows when to expect you. He’s happy to share tips on the best route in current conditions.
